Sheena Rose

Miss Sheena Rose is an accomplished visual artist from Barbados whose work has featured in solo exhibitions in London, New York, Taiwan, and across the Caribbean. Her work includes paintings, performances, murals and mixed-media presentations. Her paintings of relaxed figures are said to challenge centuries of demand for Black labour by representing empowerment through leisure. Her art has been described as flawlessly executed and intellectually rich.

Miss Rose is a 2014 Fulbright scholar who has been featured in major media outlets such as the New York Times and the BBC, and her paintings grace the covers of several Caribbean publications. She has already been honoured with a Distinguished Alumni Award from her alma mater – the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and for her contributions to culture in Barbados.

Acknowledging the arduous journey faced by artists from small islands, she devotes considerable time to mentoring emerging artists, ensuring that her own success opens doors for others. She has been awarded residencies in Trinidad, South Africa, Suriname, the USA, and the Netherlands.

For a distinguished track record of producing fine art, and her commitment to strengthening the art community of Barbados and the wider Caribbean, Miss Rose is our 2026 Arts & Letters Laureate.
